He-zhang BOT Piped Water System, Guizhou

The system is contracted as a BOT in order to meet both residential and industrial needs for a city in transition from a predominantly agricultural to a mixed industrial/agrarian economy. Western Water, as investor and builder, merged the existing water plant with a new 4 MGD expansion to solve the water shortage within a construction period of two years. Installing the water supply pipe along the narrow roads that wind along the edge of the mountains and over nearly 7 miles was a challenge. However, the plant has been smoothly operating since October, 2007 and it provides superior quality drinking water (turbidity usually under 0.05 NTU) for the town's 50,000 residents.
